"Self Portrait" is assembled from a number of diverse pieces all having a connection to me. The red background was a stamped piece done around 2001 when I was experimenting with various forms of art creation. It was in my studio, in a drawer, for those years but I knew exactly where it was and when to use it. The two white eyes are held in place by a painter's medium palette attachment from an old oil painting kit. Again some history and symbolism. The two white eyes are seen through a stereoscopic set of glasses. They are from a World War II aerial tracking kit used to see in three dimensions over contour maps. The nose is a piano key from a piano I inherited with our house and subsequently disassembled. Of course I am too close to interpret all this to my personality. Minimalist Industrial Assembly on plywood, 12" X 16", 2015. Collection of the artist.
