A mixed media exploration of the concept of Hope: self-created delusion or a tool for improvement?
“Hope” mixed media on plywood, 32” by 24”, 2016
This mixed media assembly piece wrestles with the concept of hope, asking whether it is an illusion or a belief system that helps us reach out and grasp a better life.
I combined work gloves from an arduous landscaping project, a yellow rod to symbolize the barrier between hard work the world of "hope", and a reflective black ball to situate the viewer within the context of the piece. The cluster of gloves are reaching up to a winning lottery ticket, grasping at the illusion of an improved, better life.
Here are some close-up and construction photos of Hope.
